Adams, F.N.K.-Civil War pension application of Mattie J. Adams: 4 Oct 1921, Mattie J. Adams aged 69 of Bogalusa declared that she was the widow of F.N.K. Adams, who enlisted in 1864 at Franklinton in Ironstein’s Company, serving until May 1865 when he was a prisoner of war at Columbia, MS; that she mrd sd Adams at Pleasant Valley on 13 July 1871, maiden name Mattie J. Wilkes; that her husband died 16 Oct 1916 at Angie. The pension board rejected her application as her husband’s unit, Edwards’s Battalion, was a home guard unit, whose members were not entitled to pension under law. Adams, Joseph– Washington Parish Deed Bk 9, 115; July 1868, William H. Adams and Sherwood W. Adams, joint owners, divided 640 acres, in order to effect the division of their father’s estate, known as the Joseph Adams tract; wits. W.F. Eliott, Jessee P. McGehee; Recorded 13 Jan 1905 from the burned records. [There are several lacunae in the re-recorded deed.]

Adams, Pharaoh G.- Civil War pension application of Margaret Adams: 11 Nov 1813, Margaret Adams of Angie declared she was widow of Pharoah G. Adams who enlisted in 1862 in Company B of the 16th Louisiana Regiment (CSA); that she was married Feb 1866 at Shady Grove, WPL to the sd Adams, her maiden name being Margaret McMillan; that her husband died 28 June 1899 at Lee’s Creek, WPL. Adams, Thomas James- Civil War pension application: born in 13 Dec 1830 at Lee’s Creek in WPL; enlisted in 1862 at Franklinton in Company A of the 9th Louisiana Cavalry (CSA) and served under Capt J.J. Slocum and Col Wingfield; was at the surrender of Port Hudson and came home until the close of the war; in 1903 was resident of Isabel, stated he had a wife aged 64, also 3 sons & 8 daughters. In his 1908 affidavit, he claimed 16 children, 6 boys and 10 girls. In 1919, his widow applied, stating: her husband died 5 April 1911 at Bogalusa; her maiden name was Lucy McGehee and they were mrd 11 July 1861 “near where Isabel now is.” She applied again in 1920, giving the maiden name “Lucy Louisa McGehee,” and again in 1931, when she gave her birth 8 Jan 1839 at WPL. Albritton, Richard- Cert issued 10 March 1829 To Joseph Gates of Pike County, for 162 acres, being the NE 1/4 of Sec 3 in T3 R9E; this land was initially purchased by William Gates on 14 Dec 1818; for $97, Gates sold his right to William Carter on 28 Aug 1821; for $50, Carter sold his right to James L. Reed on 20 March 1824; for $200, James L. Reed sold his right to Richard Albritton; Pike County, MS letters of administration show that at Feb Court 1827, James L. Reed was appointed administrator on the estate of Richard Albritton decd.; for “a valuable consideration paid to the estate” of Albritton, the administrator Reed sold right to Jesse Craft on 13 Aug 1827; for $65, Jesse Craft sold his right to Joseph Gates on 11 Feb 1828. Alford, John M.-21 March 1912 Civil War pension application of John M. Alford, resident of Franklinton: born 5 Feb 1842 in Pike County, MS; enlisted Spring 1862 at Franklinton in Company C of the 9th LA Battalion (Wingfield’s); has wife age 62 years and children between ages of 26-43. Ard, Claiborne– Washington Parish Deed Bk 9, 534-5; 3 July 1875, Claiborn Blackwell to John C. Blackwell, for $500, sold tract on headwaters of Lawrence Creek, 640 acres bounded on all sides by public lands and known as the Jacob Wood tract; wits. John W. Ard, John E. Flemings; Recorded 15 Aug 1905 from the burned records.
